Hard at work with some cool things coming!

Hey dudes and dudettes,

Following a helluva good time with Pavulon Twist at the University, we're hard at work on some new material, and we should have some cool Dog Ugly concerts coming up, especially in November and December--so watch this space. Also, I'll put some new pics up in the very near future--including pics from our gig in Sala Kongresowa last week. (I'm not kidding!)

Whoa... that was a road trip!

Here's a pic from Wroclaw, thanks to Cinnamon Girl! :) Poland was well-represented with Mike Gowin's band, Pavulon Twist and yours truly. The Czech band Slapdash really put on a show. I'll write more later, and post more pics, but one thing: Lukasz of Pavulon Twist, we're all proud of you for winning the Strong Man arm-wrestling contest!!! Arf!

Hey you rockabilly cats, kittens and cattettes!

There is actually going to be a bus down to Wroclaw, which will carry not only the bands (The Surfstones, Pavulon Twist, Dog Ugly and Mike Gowin and the Million in Cash Band), but also the bands' friends, groupies, hangers on and whatever else that happens to be between us and Wroclaw. Let us know if you want to come and we'll see what we can do. For more info, check out the poster!

Dog Ugly and Thee Merry Widows!!!

Well, I was a bit late in posting this (and thanks SIVA for the pics and KOSTEK for getting us the gig!), but dang we had a great time at CDQ opening for these crazy chicks from the US, Thee Merry Widows. Here are a few pics. Unfortunately, I don't have anything from the Steel Roses gig (what a surreal blast), but I will post some pics from the III Rockabilly Picknic soon.
Hope to see you guys at our next concert (although it will be mostly Ugly, Ugly, Ugly Dog until September. A bit of gossip, also--expect a once-a-month rockabilly night at a major club starting in CDQ. Dog Ugly and the infamous boys in Pavulon Twist are working hard on this as we speak (or as we write).

Laters,

Dog Ugly opens for Thee Merry Widows Tuesday

Following a rocking gig at Warsaw's Radio Luxembourg, Dog Ugly is opening for the all-female psychobilly band Thee Merry Widows at Warsaw's well-known CDQ venue (ul. Burakowska 12). Described as something akin to a Texan version of the Cramps with the guitar attitude of Dick Dale and Chuck Berry, expect at times bizarre originals and twisted covers of bands like The Cramps, The Reverend Horton Heat and The Stray Cats. Thee Merry Widows are a must see for rockabilly/psychobilly lovers. Heavy guitars, raunchy leads and a tatooed and tough lead vocalist are only half the attraction. Come check it out.
TIME: 20.00
Cost: PLN 35

Prowadzony przez Amerykanina z Teksasu, Presa Smith, Dog Ugly to zespół zaskakujący, w stylu rockabilly, bliżej do brzmień The Cramps z wpływem Dick'a Dale'a.
Ich ostatni występ jako support w Radio Luxembourg podczas III-go Piknika Rockabilly'a, przed znanymi warszawskimi zespołami Pavulon Twist i The Surf Stones,
był wielkim zaskoczeniem dla widzów przez ogromny głos Smitha i mocny dźwięk gitary Leszka Binkowskiego w stylu Chuck'a Berry-ego.
Można oczekiwać zabawnych i oryginalnych utworów Dog Ugly a także ciekawych przeróbek coverów zespołów takich jak The Cramps, The Reverend Horton Heat i the Stray Cats.Dog Ugly to Pres Smith - gitara i wokal, Leszek Binkowski - gitara i wokal, Krzysztof Binkowski- gitara basowa, Ara Soghomonian- perkusja.

Hey kiddies,

Dog Ugly's been hard at work, workin' and practicin', and soon we're going to have some originals up on this page and on myspace (www.myspace.com/doguglyrockabilly). For you rockabilly (and even psychobilly lovers) expect a sound that is a bit like surf meets the Legendary Shack Shakers, whom in my opinion can do know wrong. We'll debut a few of these at The Rockabilly Picnic on June 20th.

But on another note, Dog Ugly will play the Steel Roses MC festival outside of Warsaw on June 27, so we're also hard at work going back to some classic-rock motorcycle gang numbers that still stick to our roots. We'll put a couple of these up to in the near future.

Laters and hope to see you soon!

9 maj 2009

If you like rockabilly and surf, check out The Surfstones, who will also appear at The Rockabilly Picnic together with Dog Ugly, Pavulon Twist, etc.!

I just wanted to say that these guys swing, surf and rockabilly with the best of them. They recently added a trumpet to the band, and honestly, they are worth checking out. Their myspace page is myspace.com/theSurfstones... and The Rockabilly Picnic on June 20 is really gonna be something.

In other news, we've been told that the Steel Roses MC bash on June 27th is still expanding. Killer bands that include one of the best at playing ZZ Top style rock/blues in Europe.

But that's okay. They haven't felt the power of the Dog yet. ARF, baby, ARF!

GIGS, GIGS AND MORE GIGS!!!

LOOKOUT, DOG UGLY'S COMIN' YOUR WAY Saturday, May 16, atJimmy Bradley's Irish Pub (Sienna 39) in Warsaw and Friday, June 5 at The Hard Rock Cafe at Zlote Tarasy/ul. Zlota in Warsaw. For a full list of dates, including the upcoming ROCKABILLY PICNIC and Steel Roses gigs, including the TWO-DAY STEEL ROSES bash at Dlugosiodlo obok Wyszkowa, which is about 80 kilometers from Warsaw. Check out the map.
Expect bikers, biker chicks, bikes and something like seven or eight bands) --more info coming soon (check out the sidebar to the right).

The new blog

Hey all you cats,

Here's the new (and for now the only home) of Dog Ugly, one noisy band that takes rockabilly, rock, swing and just plain anything to create something that perhaps we should call noiseabilly. Or Dogabilly. Hopefully not Uglybilly.

At any rate, check out the blog for news on upcoming concert dates and new Dog Ugly music. I'll set up a myspace page as well (probably), but expect this page to transform into something relatively cool over the next few days--with "relative" hopefully not becoming the key word.

Laters,
